Repertoire – Founding a Men’s Designer Clothing Store.

Our Name

If you were starting a retail chain selling men’s designer clothing brands, would you call it Repertoire ? It was 1995 and most menswear shops were named after their owners. We wanted our name to stand out from the crowd, therefore we did what you did back then, we brainstormed it. We thought the name had to sound sophisticated, like the designer brands we would sell and it needed to be unusual enough to make it memorable (no worries about spelling it for Google then).

Repertoire said something about us. As in ‘we have a large repertoire of designer brands for men’. Or even ‘we stock a large repertoire of men’s designer clothing’. Get the picture. In a word, Repertoire worked and when we went online, some fifteen years ago later, we went one further and named our website Repertoire Fashion.

Location

As they say location, location, location. Where would Repertoire’s first shop be? Or should I say shops, we always like to set the bar high. Marlow and Beaconsfield situated in leafy Buckinghamshire suburbs with their obligatory Waitrose fitted the bill perfectly.  That’s where we went and 30 years on that’s where you’ll find us.

Expert Staff

Customers are important, you can’t have a shop without them and they want is some expert advice and assistance. To deliver this you need expert staff. A big hurdle, they’re notoriously hard to find. With a bit of inside knowledge and some persuasion, we found our experts. Ready and waiting, to advise and assist.

Finding Top Men’s Designer Brands

Next the big consideration. Finding what customers want is cornerstone of retail. We needed some well-known high quality designer men’s fashion brands which would satify the most discerning customers.

To sell top designer menswear brands, including the likes of BOSS, Ralph Lauren and Armani, we had to become an authorised stockist. Becoming a stockist meant that brands needed to check us out. So after much ticking of boxes, Repertoire was finally proud to carry not only these three iconic fashion brands, but also a lot of other major players in men’s designer clothing. Brands stocked today include the likes of Ami, Belstaff, Herno and Barbour to name but a few.

Looks like we had everything we needed to open our shops. And that’s exactly what we did.
